One day when I was feeling particularly small, I turned to the forest in search of support. Moss answered the call. I invite you to ponder what role you can play in this moment when it is easy to feel small and underfoot as the world is filled with a myriad of big issues needing solutions. Rather than waiting on someone we perceive to be important to make things happen, moss serves as a reminder that we each have a role to play. Perhaps there is a neighbor needing some help, or someone you encounter during your day who needs someone to show them kindness. Have you noticed a problem that you can solve by assembling a group of people to work with you, or do you love the work being done by an organization that could use the addition of your hands? Maybe it is simply time to start by picking up trash you see on the side of the road. There is always something we can do to make the world better – every day.
Here is what moss had to say…
In the wake of disasters caused by water, fire, and wind, Mother Earth shows us what resilience looks like through healing and giving birth to new life so incredible that it takes us by surprise. Moss is just one thing in the natural world leading by example, free of anger and fear, assisting in recovery and healing. Each tiny part played is critical to the whole. As you perform your role in making a difference on our planet, remember to pause and recognize the beauty in small moments such as the feeling of joy experienced when joining hands in community, and in the gratitude you recognize in the eyes of a total stranger to whom you extended kindness.
Just as a home is built one brick at a time, and a choir is built one voice at a time – the world is changed one person at a time. I will sing my part if you will sing yours!
Beauty abounds. Seek it daily.
